Elk Grove Village IL Real Estate

Elk Grove Village is located in Cook County just Northwest of the O’Hare Airport. It was established in 1956 as a planned community and doubled in size during 1960’s.   Now its population is about 32,700.  Median household income is $62,132.  2.0% of the population live below the poverty line.

The Village adjoins 37,000 acres of forest preserve called Busse Woods. It is a National Natural Landmark, and one of the most frequently visited preserves in Illinois.  According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, it contains the upland tree species typical of  prairie groves. They include oak and hickory, basswood, sugar maple, and black ash trees. Woodland wildflowers like bloodroot, wild geranium, jack-in-the-pulpit, great white trillium, and woodland phlox also bloom in the preserve. At the eastern edge of the woods, a small herd of Elk is being held.  Elks are not original to the area. They were brought from Montana in the 1920s.

Conveniently located between I-90, I-290, IL- 355 and IL-53, the village became a home to the largest business park in North America. The park sits on 5.4 square miles of land and accommodates 3,600 businesses.

Village of Elk Grove is divided into two areas. The East side is home to the oldest, more expensive properties and holds majority of government offices and recreation facilities. The West side is a home to less dense development.  Homes are younger and located in defined subdivisions.  They are more similar to the houses in adjoining Schaumburg.  Parts of the West side are not covered by Elk Grove Park District. Additionally, two different school districts service those two areas.
